Evaluation Question - 1

Evaluation Question - 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Effective

 - We thought that the colour theme inbetween our Digi-Pak, Video and website was very effective in terms of having a consistent colour theme throughout.
 - The Digi-Pak also combines two still shots from the music video, for the front and back cover.
 - The Websites main feature is the large music video view which is central to the page so people can actually see it. This was similar to other websites which we researched.
 - The band name in the top left hand corner of the page with white text and a red background is easy to see and clear to the audience.
 - The main product is the music video which shows clear links to the other tasks.
 - At the end of the video the actor is shown on a long walk down the track as a long walk to the end which is seen on the digipak itself as the pictures taken were from the site of the scene.
- The darker tones on the Digi-Pak don't specifically match those in the website, except for the font and background of the font.

Evaluation Question - 3

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

There were various ways to learn our audience feedback towards the music video. We learnt, and recorded this feedback in anumber of ways;
  •  Through comments on YouTube video page
  • Class presentation
  • One-to-one interviews
  • Through dialogue
  Through these methods of conveying feedback, we learnt that;
  • The continuity of our video produces confusion
  • Some cuts are slightly unnecessary/ confusing -  They may be too sharp or present continuity issues focused around the storyline.
  • Colour - Colour was bright at times, as opposed to dark atmospheres in the next cut.
  • We learnt that we may not have to go through the proccess of acquiring permission for the use of the song, as The Castros are a local band, however, we followed some comments that stated we should still ask for permission to be safe.
  • Our Digi-Pak feedback consisted of comments stating that we should finish the back 2 panels of the Digi-Pak, as well as clear the quality of the picture.
This feedback influenced us to keep our atmosphere the same throughout the video, so we opted for a dark consistent theme. In terms of the cuts, we decided to edit them by fading some cuts out, whilst leaving some as we thought it produced some film related shots, eg; match on action during first 30 seconds of video.

Evaluation - Question 4

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
During our filming we used the Canon 600D camera and Hama Omega premium III tripod in order to have steady filming and have flexibility in filming. Along with this we used a double-sided reflector to have a better dispersion of light in the shot we would be filming. This, in conjunction with some lights and light stands would provide adequate light for filming. The editing occured in Adobe Premier Pro with plans to add touches on Adobe After Effects.

What Went Well
  • The camera quality was extremely good, providing a range of qualities from 360p to full HD 1080p.
  • The tripod was extremely effective in keeping stability and helping us pan and get our steady shots of long walks ie; the railway shot and tunnel shot.
  • The time spent on Adobe Premier Pro was quite easy, and no big problems occurred.
What Went Wrong
  • We had major problems with the camera and light coming into the camera, many shots were wasted because not enough light was coming into the camera and the small screen on the camera did not let us see whether the shot would have a good outcome or not.
  • The dark atmospheres that we wanted in our video provided a big challenge as we did not have lights in order to compensate for the dark afternoons that we filmed on.
  • Exporting our video onto YouTube proved challenging as it took a whole day to upload because of internet speeds and a large HD file.

Research and Planning Stages

In our research and planning stage, we used various technologies in order to complete our research and planning and record it, we used technologies such as:
-Internet:
-Google - Researching codes & conventions, etc.
-Blogger - To log our progress
-YouTube - To research similar products and conventions
-Prezi - To display our progress and other parts of our research and planning
-Pitchfork - Website to perform detailed research into similar products
-Magazines
-Magazines were used to look at pictures of band clothing, similar products and codes and conventions of Indie/Rock music; NME, Mojo and Q magazine.
-Television
-Watching music videos of a similar or certain genre to find codes and conventions, to compare what theorist has been used in certain music videos as well as clothing and the outline of the music videos, ie; narrative or performance clips.

- Camera - The camera was used to film location shots for planning, as well as mostly for location scouting shots to present in group meetings.
-Evaluation

Internet - Blogger - To record our evaluation responses.
